The Pilot Agricultural Household Survey in India aims to test and refine the methodology, tools, and operational procedures for the forthcoming India Agricultural Household Survey (IAHS) 2026. Outline India will conduct the pilot data collection with a sample of 100 agricultural households across four villages in two states - Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The pilot will focus on farmers whose primary production centers on either wheat or potato. The key objectives are to validate the survey instruments, assess logistical feasibility, and establish robust protocols for data collection, quality assurance, and sample management. The exercise will begin with a comprehensive household listing in each selected village to develop a sampling frame for identifying farming households to be surveyed. Alongside quantitative data collection, soil and leaf samples will also be collected for testing. Outline India’s responsibilities include review and translation of the quantitative survey tool, CAPI programming, conducting the household listing and sampling households, recruitment and training of the field team, data collection, sample collection, ensuring rigorous data management and quality checks, and submission of the cleaned dataset and field report.
