The main objectives of the study were to:

Analyze trends in sanitation and identify the inflexion points with respect to the policy change, local factors, agencies and other change-makers in the field of sanitation

Explore the primary reasons behind what, how and why the major changes in the sanitation sector occurred in the five states and analyze the impact on health indicators.

Identify the major challenges faced by officials and agencies involved in sanitation campaigns.

Make recommendations for better implementation of sanitation policies at the state as well as national level.
